Literature Analysis “Space Station Seventh Grade”

1: In Jerry Spinelli’s non-fiction entitled “Space Station Seventh Grade”, he tells how hard the seventh grade is for Jason Herkimer, the main character. Jason struggles to get his crush Debbie Breen to love him back. He also struggles with family problems and friend problems. After Kippy Kim dies he learns to appreciate his little brother Timmy.

2: The theme would be love for Debbie Breen and later a girl he made fun of, Marceline McAlister. Devastation for his best friend, Peter Kim and his little brother Kippy, who had died in a Car Accident.

3: I like that it’s very funny and completely real! It describes the life of a teenager and other problems we may have. It even talks about pimples!!

4: Like I said it describes a teen so well & it also in a way describes life as a seventh grader. It does capture the drama in seventh grade with bullies, jocks, cheerleaders, etc.

5: The author has many different tones. At certain parts the author sounds happy, worried, annoyed, angry, and depressed.

6: Jason Herkimer is a very round character. In the end you know his whole personality and how his beliefs have changed since the beginning. Another character, Debbie Breen,  is a flat, static character. You don’t really here from her much in the second half of the book & she hasn’t really changed.

7: I Feel like I have met Jason Herkimer, but I don’t think I would be too fond of him. He seems very annoying and sexist at the comments he makes when he gets beat by a girl. At some points he just irritates me.

Task Two: Know Your Zombies

In Ali S. Khan's, fiction passage entitled, Preparedness 101:Zombie Apocalypse, she suggest that we should be ready for the zombie apocalypse. Khan states that "to get through the first couple of days before you can locate a zombie-free refugee camp". She also suggest to make an emergency kit supplied with: food, water, medication, tools, sanitation, clothing, and important documents. Khan States, "When zombies are hungry they wont stop until they get food". Khan suggest to have an emergency plan. An example is to have a place where you can meet up with family members and friends and an evacuation route. Khan states that," If zombies did start roaming the streets, CDC would conduct an investigation much like any other disease outbreak". Khan Informs that the CDC ( Control Disease Center) will be prepared to assist. CDC is willing to give technical assistance and breaking the cycle of transmission of the disease. Khan's purpose is to give advice on what we should do and to inform us that the CDC is also here to assist with the zombie apocalypse.

Task One: Survival Basics

In David Hambling's non-fiction pamphlet entitled, How To Survive A Zombie Apocalypse, he states how to survive and what you need to survive a zombie apocalypse. He explains that you must know your zombies first.There are the natural zombies which are infected by poison, supernatural zombies that are possessed by demons, and alien zombies are modern zombies we believe today. He next proceeds to show that you also need to know your weapons. He states that you need light weight artillery to stay mobile. You also need a large supply of ammunition. Finally David also says, "Keep Your Head". He states to keep calm and relax, also to take a couple friends of 3 or 4 that are most reliable. Hambling's purpose is to educate the community and the world in order to survive a zombie apocalypse.

Persepolis Responds Argument

In the graphic novel, “Persepolis” by Marjane Satrapi, is about government, society, economy, and the life of Marjane Satrapi. On November 5, 2013, a woman named Johan Bennett wrote a review/ request that they remove and ban the book from the schools and public library’s.

The graphic novel, “Persepolis”, was being taught to the 10^th grade literature level when a parent had pointed out the book had crass language, graphic violence, torture, sexual content, lewd humor, an instance of suicide, and other images that are not appropriate. Bennett decides to investigate for her and gets the same results. In Bennet’s opinion she says Marjane Satrapi is a horrible role model for our age group and that we shouldn’t be exposed to anything in this book yet.

To clarify my statements the only reason Marji rebels against her own government is to join in on demonstrations to serve a purpose in her country. Marjane in general has always been patriotic since she was 10.

In Iran, their government is basically a Totalitarism government, it’s very unfair, controls everything, sexist laws. Women were treated as abominations and prostitutes and were unable to wear anything but the veil, whereas for the men they also had a dress code but they would buy extremely tight close to provocative. Marjane is simply fighting in for her rights as a young lady soon to be a woman herself. Also the only reason why Marji was kicked out of many schools was because she stuck up for herself like her parents had taught her as a young girl. She didn’t know that Markus had just made her a drug dealer it wasn’t her fault.

In conclusion I disagree with what Johan Bennett had said. She only pointed out the negative parts of “Persepolis”. In my opinion Persepolis teaches responsibility, independence, and toughness to fight for your rights in hard situations. “Persepolis” should be taught to the 10^th grade literature. Most teens have a view of Iran as an evil country when in reality it’s really not.

Literature Analysis

 

1: In "TTFN" by Lauren Myracle, takes place in Georgia, Atlanta with three best friends. There's Angela, Zoe, and Maddie. Angela struggles because of the fact that she had to move to California leaving her two best friends behind. Zoe struggles with telling Angela that she's dating a guy that used to have a big crush on Angela. Maddie has troubles with expressing her feelings and having a serious relationship with a guy she likes a lot.

2: The theme of "TTFN" what I think is Struggling with life, being unable to express your feelings, drama, and of course friend ship.

3: The authors mood seems very teenage girl like. Its jumpy and expresses a lot of emotion and sarcasm. For example in the text Zoe says, "Eeeeek!! I'm so excited!". In that part of the passage you can kind of actually here a teenage girl talking in your mind. At another part of the passage Angela is taking to Maddie and she tells her, " It made me cry, Maddie, isn't that ridiculous? After she hung up on me, i just sat on my bed and bawled." You can tell that the character is shes being emotional and a little dramatic.

 

4: In the book the author used a lot of Emoticons to symbolized the characters feelings just like today's text messaging. The author used a lot of different tones; for example she expresses the way a teenage girl talks, sarcasm, dramatic, emotional.

                In the play Antigone by Sophocles, Antigone, the main character, comes into conflict with her uncle/king, Creon. Antigone’s two brothers had feud over who would be king after their father and left the kingdom. Polyneices was the brother that had went against his brother and his own country. Creon then labels him as a traitor to his country and according to Creon’s decree a traitor does not get a proper burial. Antigone tries to be loyal and give honor to her brother by burying him properly, but Creon gets in her way.

                Antigone is very loyal to her family. She stuck at her brother’s side even though he was a traitor. She still loved her father even after she found out he had been cured and cursed the whole family. Although she was not so loyal to Ismene, she had told her, “You shall not lessen my death by sharing it!” (830.156) What she was telling Ismene is that don’t try to take credit in what you didn’t help do or even want to help do. She was really loyal to the gods. To the gods a proper burial was important. If you did not bury someone properly their spirit would not make it to the underworld god Hades.  Creon on the other hand was not loyal to family but to the state. He didn’t care if Polyneiece or Antigone were his niece and nephew he still killed them and gave them no mercy. He told the people of Thebes, “I have the honor to inform you that our ship of state”. (prologue.8) He’s explaining the comparison of a ship to the state that it rocks back and forth and they must stabilize it. In scene two.118 he told Antigone that she was alone on that option. He was telling her even though that she is family that he doesn’t car and he won’t give her mercy.

                Antigone and Creon have one similarity. They both have a lot of pride. Antigone tells Creon, “I do. I deny nothing”. (2.59) she’s being prideful and taking responsibilities for her actions she isn’t begging for mercy or even saying sorry. In (scene2.121) she tells Creon that she does not feel any guilt in what she did. Antigone knew the consequences if she got caught but she took the risk anyway. Antigone is very prideful and determined and doesn’t let anyone stand in her way. Like Antigone, Creon is also very prideful. He told his son, “My voice is the one voice giving orders in this city!” (3.104) He’s saying that he doesn’t need anyone to tell him how to do his job or run the state. In (scene 3.74) he told the old man Tiresias that no matter what he said nothing would change his fate. He’s not going to believe him because he’s just an old man he could just be losing his mind. I noticed that both of Creon’s and Antigone’s prideful nature led to their down falls. Antigone and Creon’s Family had died because of their pride.

                It was mostly Creon’s fault. Creon did not listen Tiresias; as a result, his wife and son killed themselves. The people of Thebes didn’t think what Antigone did was wrong. Antigone was also the cause of the conflict to. If she would have obeyed Creon and Ismene when they said not to do it, she would still be alive. In conclusion, Creon’s wife and son dies due to his pride and Antigone completed her task, but also died.

1. My first wish would be to eat and never get fat because food is delicious!
My second wish would be to have perfect straight hair because I hate my hair. My third wish would be to be very successful in my life so that I can have a good life, career, and future.

2.No I'm not really so superstitious about anything because I don't believe in all that bad luck and luck stuff. I believe in fate
